Frequently Asked Questions

What will GBS do for me?
GBS is a Private Recruitment Agency. In simple terms, we work for Gippsland businesses to attract suitably qualified candidates for their current vacancies. We match the job skills and personal requirements against our client’s requirements. If your skills fit the requested criteria then you may be shortlisted and invited for either a preliminary interview with GBS, direct with the relevant organisation, or both before the appointment of the successful applicant.
Why should I register with GBS?

Registering with GBS will automatically add your details into our database as a registered candidate. As a registered candidate, when our clients request personnel with particular key skill sets, a database scan will be performed to identify any potential candidates who might be suitable. Those with matching skills may then be contacted to see if they are interested in the role. You will also receive an email advising how to set up for Job Alerts, which we strongly encourage you to do, and let the jobs automatically come to you when loaded on our site.

What will my recruiter do for me?
It’s fairly common to not fully understand all of the work that goes into any recruitment process. Our staff are sales people, organisers, negotiators, matchmakers, trainers, researchers, and public relations specialists. We use a variety of tools to source our candidates, which include our database, print and online advertising, networking and our extensive connections. Our ability to convince the right people to join our organisations is what makes a great recruiter and recruitment company.

We use analytics to determine market salaries, how many people are in the market with niche skills and where we locate these people from. We guide our candidates and clients on the full employment process from both aspects, always ensuring that everything is compliant with Australian law. We also personalise the process for both our candidates and hiring managers.
Why doesn't my recruiter call me with jobs?
We might call you with a job, however we also have the tools to promote our vacancies via Email, Text, Website and Social Media. We have a large audience and we try very hard to keep our communication constant via any of the above methods. If you have not received a call from GBS Recruitment regarding a role or work, please call us.

Also make sure you have registered with us to receive our Weekly Job Alert Email
What can I do to improve my Application / Resume?
At GBS we have a guide for writing your resume. This guide outlines some of the basic principles of resume writing and we are happy to send this to you upon request. Spending time on your resume is time well invested. Be mindful that we can only search on information which is accurate and up to date so please ensure your resume is kept up to date and is relevant to any position you may be applying for.

Each job application should be tailored to that job with specific examples justifying your case as the best possible option for employment. Remember it’s a game and the best application / resume showcasing the right skills and experience normally wins!

Firing off standard resumes, applications or covering letters is not a method we suggest or accept – spend the time and provide a quality, detailed and tailored application!
If I pass on one job, will my recruiter still consider me about other jobs?
Certainly, we understand that each job is not suitable for everyone, and we will continue to try and assist fully registered candidates who meet our required criteria until we are successful in finding them employment.
How should I present for an interview and what do I need to bring?
You may be invited to attend different styles of interviews whilst registered with GBS. In the first instance, you may be invited to a registration interview with one of our GBS consultants. When attending this interview, it is important that you dress appropriately for the interview as this will form part of your overall assessment in the event that a job becomes available. You should bring the latest copy of your resume if you have updated it since you first registered with us. In the second instance you may be asked to attend a job application specific interview. Once again, presentation and dress are important factors and you will be asked specific questions relating to this job and the duties and skills required.
Do you have "ghost" jobs advertised?

We do not advertise ghost jobs. All jobs are placed on our website on the basis of advice from our client. Occasionally, GBS will call for "expressions of interest" for positions. These may be for positions which are not yet ready for the application process to proceed or for which final details are not yet known.

Who pays for the service of GBS?
GBS are a privately funded recruitment company and we are charged with finding the most suitable candidates for each individual role that we work on for our select clients. Unfortunately we are unable to offer any guarantees when trying to help people find work, and there is no charge to candidates when applying for a job or registering with GBS Recruitment.
